Standard grading is used. 100-90 A 89-80 B 79-70 C 69-60 D 59-0 F. I plan to have my grades available on this website. Check back here the third week of school. Students are graded for calendar, homework, tests, quizzes, class assignments and participation.
The purpose of a student calendar is to keep track of homework, tests, projects and anything that is important for each class. Your child will be writing their homework assignments in the calendar everyday. You and your child should be checking this calendar everyday. This is a very big part of their grade and the easiest way to get a high grade. Each week your child is graded for calendar/ notebook/paper/pens or pencils/and organization. A grade of an A will be given each week if your child completes and turns in all homework for that week,and has notebook, calendar, paper and pencil daily for the week. The following Monday I will be checking for parent signature on the calendar, that counts for Friday’s homework. I check the calendar and homework everyday without fail. Students that consistently forget their calendar or homework will have their grade lowered. I mentioned in the homework section, how the homework is written in the calendar. I also mentioned the calendar is a way for you to help your child by being aware of the homework and encouraging them to get it done and put in a notebook, ready for me the next day.
Homework is given in both of my classes reading and home economics Monday -Friday. Homework is due the next day. If your child forgets to complete or bring the homework it will be accepted late. I will not be reminding students about missing homework. It is their Job to look at the posted grades on the web site or on the board in class to see what they are missing. Students are required to write the name of the homework in their calendar. The homework for Friday is for the parent/guardian to sign the calendar. The purpose of signing the calendar is for you, the parent/guardian to be a part of their child’s learning experience by creating a dialogue with your child about the homework and to check to see if they have completed the homework correctly and they put it back in their notebook/folder to take back to school the next day. While checking the calendar, it should have the name of page of the homework written for each day of the week or a page number or a title. An example for reading would be comprehension pg 2. I will use abbreviations to allow the important information to fit in the space. compreh.pg 2. An example for home economics would be Vegetables #1 or veg. #1. Daily homework should not take longer than 30 min for each class. The purpose of homework is to give your child practice in what they learned and how to manage responsibility by turning in their completed homework.

I’m teaching reading and home economics. The reading class covers phonemic awareness and phonics, word recognition, spelling, vocabulary, morphology, grammar, word usage, comprehension and writing. I follow the English language arts standards for kindergarten through 6th grade depending on IEP goals. My home economics class concentrates on safety practices in the kitchen, cooking nutrition, reading labels, reading newspaper ads, reading for informational purposes, identifying a variety of foods, health education and community experiences in shopping based on the California state framework for health standards.
